We provide free training in two areas of tech:

  • IT support: You’ll learn the fundamental technical skills and know-how to start a career in IT support, including hardware, software, networks, security, and troubleshooting. When you graduate from this 6-month program, you’ll have the skills to earn CompTIA A+ certification, an industry-recognized credential that entry-level IT hiring managers look for on resumes.
  • Digital marketing: This is a 4-month course preparing you for Google and Meta Ads Certification, preparing you for jobs in paid search marketing. This field focuses on creating and managing online ad campaigns to drive targeted traffic, with job opportunities as a PPC Specialist and digital ad manager.

Path to Pro is an initiative by Home Depot that offers free, fully remote training for job seekers who are interested in construction industry careers. The program aims to fill the growing demand for trade professionals by providing the foundational skills necessary for success in these fields.

What’s more, the self-paced structure of the training means you’ll need a lot of self-discipline and personal accountability to stay on track and complete the program. Without a set schedule or the motivation from a learning community, this can be difficult to accomplish on your own.

Finally, the lack of real-time interaction with instructors means you won’t receive immediate feedback, which can hinder your learning, especially when facing challenging concepts. Job Corps training happens on-site at local campuses. The programs generally require you to live on campus, which is not a viable or necessarily desired lifestyle for everyone. You’ll also want to think about whether the structured environment and mandatory attendance are right for you. If you prefer a more flexible or independent learning style, you might feel constrained.

Also, keep in mind that program durations can vary from eight months to three years. If you’re eager to jump into the workforce sooner, this extended time commitment might feel like a drawback.

3. Generation USA: Location-specific remote training programs in a variety of industries

Generation USA is a nonprofit organization that offers free job training for underserved adults across various high-demand industries. While the programs are fully remote, only residents of the following US states are eligible:

Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Job training is offered in different fields, including:

  • Healthcare (i.e. hospital service agent, patient service associate)
  • Technology (i.e. software developer, data analyst)
