We provide free training in two areas of tech:

• IT support: You’ll learn the fundamental technical skills and know-how to start a career in IT support, including hardware, software, networks, security, and troubleshooting. When you graduate from this 6-month program, you’ll have the skills to earn CompTIA A+ certification, an industry-recognized credential that entry-level IT hiring managers look for on resumes.
• Digital marketing: This is a 4-month course preparing you for Google and Meta Ads Certification, preparing you for jobs in paid search marketing. This field focuses on creating and managing online ad campaigns to drive targeted traffic, with job opportunities as a PPC Specialist and digital ad manager.

All Climb Hire programs are fully remote, giving you the flexibility to study from anywhere in the US. While classes take place online, they’re taught by live instructors who can give you feedback in real time. 1. Path to Pro: Free online training for careers in the skilled trades

Path to Pro is an initiative by Home Depot that offers free, fully remote training for job seekers who are interested in construction industry careers. The program aims to fill the growing demand for trade professionals by providing the foundational skills necessary for success in these fields.

Path to Pro offers skilled training in the following areas:

• Carpentry
• Electrical
• Plumbing
• HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning)
• Masonry
• Welding
• Roofing
• Painting

• Restoration

Every training program is 100% virtual from anywhere in the US or Puerto Rico. The courses are self-paced, giving you the necessary flexibility to work around your schedule. While experienced instructors and mentors are a part of the programs, they’re not available in real-time to offer guidance during active learning.

Drawbacks to consider before committing to Path to Pro

While the Path to Pro program provides valuable training, it’s important to keep in mind that trade careers are not for everyone, as they often require significant physical effort and stamina. The labor-intensive nature of the work can be daunting, especially if you’d prefer a less physically demanding career.

What’s more, the self-paced structure of the training means you’ll need a lot of self-discipline and personal accountability to stay on track and complete the program. Without a set schedule or the motivation from a learning community, this can be difficult to accomplish on your own.

Finally, the lack of real-time interaction with instructors means you won’t receive immediate feedback, which can hinder your learning, especially when facing challenging concepts. The result may be that you’ll feel unprepared for real-world applications, as simulations aren’t necessarily able to replicate the hands-on challenges faced on job sites.

All in all, it’s important to weigh these considerations against the benefits when deciding if the Path to Pro program is the right fit for you.

2. Job Corps: Free job training programs for youths in every US state

Job Corps is a free job training program for low-income young adults between the ages of 16 and 24, administered by the federal government with 120 campuses across all 50 states and Puerto Rico.

Hands-on training is offered in over 100 high-demand fields, including:

• Healthcare (i.e. certified nursing assistant, dental assistant, medical office support)
• Renewable resources and energy (i.e. solar photovoltaic technician)

Drawbacks to consider before committing to Job Corps

Job Corps training happens on-site at local campuses. The programs generally require you to live on campus, which is not a viable or necessarily desired lifestyle for everyone. You’ll also want to think about whether the structured environment and mandatory attendance are right for you. If you prefer a more flexible or independent learning style, you might feel constrained.

Also, keep in mind that program durations can vary from eight months to three years. If you’re eager to jump into the workforce sooner, this extended time commitment might feel like a drawback.

3. Generation USA: Location-specific remote training programs in a variety of industries

Generation USA is a nonprofit organization that offers free job training for underserved adults across various high-demand industries. While the programs are fully remote, only residents of the following US states are eligible:

Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Job training is offered in different fields, including:

• Healthcare (i.e. hospital service agent, patient service associate)
• Technology (i.e. software developer, data analyst)
• Customer service and sales (i.e. SaaS sales representative, digital customer service)
• Skilled trades (i.e. sewing machine operator, CNC machine operator)
• Green jobs (i.e. solar panel installer, heat pump installer)

Programs last anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks, with classes held online for several hours a day, 5 days a week, so it’s a pretty rigorous full-time schedule.

Here are some noteworthy features of Generation USA’s programs:

• Courses are fully remote, blending self-paced work with live, instructor-led sessions.
• Some programs include placements in paid internships.
• Training is about 80% technical skills and 20% career support, which includes resume building, interview practice, and other soft skills.
• You’ll complete real-world projects to apply your new skills before entering the workforce.
• Certification exam costs are completely covered.
• Generation USA has partnerships with different employers, which can open up opportunities for job placements after completing the program.
• Job placement is not guaranteed, but 86% of alumni find a job within 6 months, many of which are in their field of study.

To be eligible for Generation USA, you have to be at least 18 years old and not already enrolled in college or in another training program.

Drawbacks to consider before committing to Generation USA

Generation USA programs require a significant time commitment, as they follow a rigorous full-time schedule of several hours a day, five days a week. This could be challenging if you have other obligations, such as work or family responsibilities.

Another potential issue is that not all programs are available at all times, which can severely limit your options for study. For instance, if you’re particularly interested in a field like healthcare or technology, you may find that the program you’re eager to join isn’t currently being offered when you’re ready to start. This will either delay your training as you wait for the program you want to open up or force you to choose a career path that doesn’t align with your aspirations.
