Our Climbers encounter barriers every day. What changes the story is the pod: twenty people showing up for each other, pushing through together, and celebrating every milestone.

What is a Climb Hire pod? It’s self-belief and camaraderie. It’s a fresh start, an opportunity for growth, and a launching pad for future successes. It’s a group that will always welcome you home. A Climb Hire pod is 20 job-seeking adults, plus a facilitator who serves as a fellow, united in a common pursuit. And it’s so much more than that.

A pod is made up of people like Brittany Bell.

Brittany sees obstacles and sets out to remove them.

You can see it in her work on her accessible webzine, Meaning in Makeup, which includes screen reader-friendly videos for people who are blind or low vision and transcribed videos for people who are hard of hearing, deaf, or have an auditory processing disorder. You can also see it in the way she leads her pod.

Brittany is a content creator, an alumna of our Paid Search Marketing cohort, a paid search marketer, and she’s also a fellow who led a pod of 20 Climbers seeking certification in Paid Search Marketing. All of the Climbers in her pod – 100% – were successfully certified.

Brittany’s quick to point out that it’s the Climbers – their hard work and capability – that made this accomplishment possible. And Brittany does everything she can to make success attainable for Climbers.

She implemented link-sharing practices on the community Slack channel so that students could go back and access past content. She frequently messaged Climbers about attendance, homework, and class in general. She held regular accountability check-ins.

Brittany uses both a wheelchair and a cane, and she knows a lot about inequity and barriers.
She also has course-specific knowledge, having completed cohort herself as a Climber.
She draws from all of it in service of the Climbers in her pod.

“Sometimes I say, ‘Do you need anything? How do I help you achieve this? Do you need us to reset what we need to do?” Brittany says. “I’ve been through it, so I can give them the knowledge so they can stay on top of it. A lot of the work is just saying to them, ‘You are capable.’”
