What do you think is next for Climb Hire?
As someone who completed the program, developed soft and technical skills as well as grew in a community-based environment, I believe Climb Hire can generate more professionals out there who are willing to learn and better themselves… especially those who share the same passion and drive for success. That’s our homophily.
How did you leverage your Social Capital for your job search and eventual promotion at Empower Pharmacy?
The soft skills Climb Hire introduced benefitted in my search for an entry-level position by showing me to take initiative and get out of my usual comfort zone. I was fortunate to meet individuals within the company which I see as great leaders, those of whom encourage and invest in an individual’s growth.
What did you learn about yourself during your job search?
Personally, when it comes to searching for a new path or new career, I almost always feel a bit of anxiety, faced with imposter syndrome and uncertainty; it has been the most limiting factor that discourages me from moving forward. People around me however, have been the driving force in trying to overcome those obstacles. The other Climbers and our Fellows gave significant insights of their day-to-day routines, which I believe benefitted not only myself but also others over the course of six months.
There are 6 Climb Hire values: Relationships Matter, Do the Hard Work, Generosity, Overcoming Adversity, Joy, Curiosity. Which one do you resonate with the most? Why?
Curiosity. I am the type of person that gets overly excited when I find a topic that piques my interest to the point of searching for answers wherever I am able to find it. I am driven by curiosity and thrive in gaining more knowledge. I see myself as one of the cave dwellers that took a chance and followed the stranger holding a torch promising a new perspective, a mentor, referencing Plato’s Allegory of the Cave.
What goal are you looking to achieve next?
There are many other paths offered in Salesforce and each one is quite interesting. Though others have suggested the next steps, I am drawn toward learning about Security and actually building applications. I am looking for trails and other related articles or guides in creating those kinds of builds. For goals, I plan to earn more certifications involving Salesforce and Cloud-based Security as a personal point of interest.
What else do you want to share with the Climb Hire community?
I am a big philosophy nerd, that being said I’d like to reference Heraclitus; one of his concepts states:
“No man steps in the same river twice,
for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man”
The idea resonates that we may find obstacles in our life and as we continue to gain knowledge and understanding we become a whole new person in comparison to where we were before, and those challenges we’ve faced are no longer obstacles because we have gained the power to overcome them.
